Army bomb squad officers have dealt with a viable pipe bomb in east Belfast.

It was found in Island Street during the early hours.

No homes were evacuated during the alert, which ended at about 6am.

Police Service of Northern Ireland Detective Constable Sam McCallum has appealed for anyone with information to contact officers at Musgrave Street on 101.
