It's the best way to call in sick - so it is.

Northern Irish model Gemma Garrett was at the Pub of the Year Awards and was scheduled to be at a fitness training session the next morning at 8am.

But luckily, Charlie Lawson - best known as 'Big Jim McDonald' from Coronation Street was on hand to call in sick for her.

The Enniskillen-born actor provided the former Miss Great Britain with the "best sick note ever" as he recorded a video for her to send to trainer Ian Young.

Gemma wrote: "When you gotta call in sick but know that you are gonna get in trouble for it! Just get big Jim Mcdonald to do it for you! Sorry Ian Young I just couldn't face a session at 8am ;( ;( #bestsicknoteever!"

Charlie in the video tells the trainer that the presenter will not be "anywhere near him".

He says: "Ian are you there. Pay attention I'm here to tell you that as much as she'd love to be with you at 8 o'clock in the morning, Gemma is not going to be anywhere f****ing near you.

"Now that's got nothing to do with me, but I am involved with the fact that she's having a laugh and a party.

"She's not going to be there that's all.

Before Gemma interrupts - "Ian you're amazing".

Charlie concludes: "Aye, you're very amazing"

Gemma told the Belfast Telegraph: "Charlie is a good friend who I met through Sunday Life. He is always the best fun. When I heard he was at my table I knew it would be disastrous."

But it seems Gemma, who is also a make-up artist,  isn't quite off the hook - as trainer Ian commented to say as he woke up and saw the message he thought this meant she was up and "in the zone".

He commented: "When I woke this morning at 5am, bleary eyed, wind blowing, rain bouncing off the roof, looked at my phone - Message from Gemma Garrett - I thought WOW, she really is in the zone, up at 5am getting ready for her session - this is awesome!!!

Opened the message to see Big Jim (sober as a judge) telling me "Gemma isn't gonna be anywhere f*#kin near ya" !!!

"I have to admit it brightened my day at 5am

"BUT Tomorrow is another day Miss Garrett, so I'll see you at 8am and we'll have a chat then  - So We Will !"

The video has been viewed more than 1,000 times.
