An investigation has been launched after footage emerged which appears to show a Translink bus driver letting schoolchildren off on a busy off-slip.

The incident happened on the Sandyknowes M2 motorway off-slip on October 5.

It was filmed on a dashboard camera of a vehicle at around rush hour.

Cars are seen travelling down the inside lane of the off slip in the footage.

The car taking the video, also in the inside lane, then slows and stops as an Ulsterbus,in middle of the road, allows its passengers off.

Three people, who appear to be schoolchildren, are then seen exiting the bus before quickly moving across to the grass verge before then walking toward the busy roundabout.

A Translink spokeswoman said an investigation was underway.

She said: "We take safety breaches extremely seriously and we have already begun a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

The investigation comes after Translink issued safety warnings to the public and released footage of two people almost being run over by a train in a tunnel.
