Householders in Castlereagh have been warned by police to secure their homes properly after two residents disturbed intruders in their homes.

The first incident in Ballylenaghan Park happened at around 7.30pm on Saturday - one of a series of burglaries in the area that day.

A woman was upstairs when she heard a noise on the stairs. She shouted at the man who made off. He was wearing dark clothing and had his face covered.

It is not believed that anything was stolen as a result of the incident. It was later reported to police that two men entered a property in Martinville Park shortly after 8.30pm.

Again, the men were disturbed, this time by a male occupant and the intruders fled on foot.

It was reported that sometime between 7pm and midnight entry was forced to a second property in Martinville Park.

Detective Sergeant James Johnston is appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles in these areas on Saturday evening to contact police on 101.

Information can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
