Violent kidnapper sent to prison
A man who held a stranger captive in a flat for almost six hours during which time he was attacked, robbed and threatened with death has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.
Mark Edward Toner (38), from St Eithne's Park in Londonderry, pleaded guilty to falsely imprisoning the man, making threats to kill, and wounding him in November 2009. Derry Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, was told yesterday that Toner invited the man to a flat for a drink after sharing a taxi with him.
Inside the flat, Toner started to attack the man and after forcing him to kneel on the ground, told him he was going to chop him into little pieces.
The victim's wallet was taken from him and his bank card was used to withdraw hundreds of pounds from an ATM. The man sustained serious head injuries.
Toner was ordered to spend 27 months behind bars and a similar period on licence.
