Warning issued after wave sweeps child off feet on Portstewart coast
The Irish Coast Guard has warned the public to "stay back and stay safe" after a child was swept off its feet while walking along the Portstewart coast.
The video shows a man walking along hand-in-hand with the youngster when the massive wave comes along.
Shane Dillon, Station Officer with the Irish Coast Guard says tides are "very high" at the moment and is urging anyone walking along coastal routes to inform their friends and family.
"We have high tides at the moment and it is something that people are unaware of, so people should stay back and stay safe," he said.
"Larger waves can come in periodically, particularly along the north coast, all Atlantic coastal areas but along the east coast as well because of the speed of tidal changes.
"Keep people advised that if they are going along coastal routes, that they inform friends and family and if they see anything happening, dial 112 and request the coast guard".
