Watch: Lorry filmed going around one of Northern Ireland's busiest roundabouts in wrong direction
'We are putting in place measures so this won't happen again,' says haulage firm
This is the moment an articulated lorry driver was caught driving around one of Northern Ireland's busiest roundabouts in the wrong direction.
As the truck and trailer head around the junction in an anti-clockwise direction, other vehicles can be seen making their way in the correct direction.
The footage was filmed at Sandyknowes roundabout by Newtownabbey man Emlyn Crumlin on Monday morning.
"Couldn't believe what I was seeing," said the driver for 365 Taxis.
Over 65,000 pass through the busy junction every day. It is second only to the Westlink for traffic in all of Northern Ireland.
The driver was making his way to Donegal from Dublin when he made a wrong turn.
Haulage firm North West Carriers said the driver has been taken off the road and will be spoken to and measures are being put in place to make sure it never happens again.
"This is very embarrassing," said William Hoey of the firm.
"We are just very lucky it was nothing more serious and we would like to apologise to the public for any inconvenience caused.
"We have been very, very lucky."
He added: "This was the first time that driver has been in Ireland or the UK for that matter. He has very little English and said he got confused.
"He is a driver for our southern company and there will be action taken.
"We will be putting measures in place to make sure this never happens again."
