White Widow Lewthwaite fomenting jihad in Somalia on back of a camel
The world's most wanted female terror suspect – who spent part of her childhood in Northern Ireland – has been spotted fleeing by camel to an al-Qaida training camp.
Samantha Lewthwaite, better known as the White Widow, is understood to be holed up in the Somali camp, where she is being protected by 800 al-Qaida allies.
It is believed Lewthwaite, who is the widow of one of the July 7 London bombers, has undergone plastic surgery, lost two stone in weight and changed her hair colour to avoid being recognised.
Lewthwaite is said to be a leader of Islamic terror group al-Shabaab, which carried out a massacre at a Kenyan shopping centre in September.
The al-Qaida-affiliated group killed 67 people in the massacre.
It is understood that afterwards she was transported over the Kenyan border to war-torn Somalia, where she has been spotted four times in recent weeks.
The most recent sighting came a fortnight ago when she was seen riding a camel into a snake-infested forest in Somalia.
Colonel Yasin Hiro of the Somali National Army told The Mirror: "She has been moving by camel. We think she is in the camps. We hope the snakes and scorpions like her."
The 29-year-old mother-of-four converted to Islam in her teens. She is subject of an international arrest warrant, issued by Interpol.
East Kenya police commander Aggrey Adoli said: "We believe she is involved in the recruitment of jihadists and propagation of al-Shabaab and al-Qaida activities in the country with other like-minded individuals. Once we apprehend Samantha Lewthwaite she'll have a lot of questions to answer."
He added: "She is without a doubt an incredible threat to national and international security. We are working round-the-clock to bring her in to stop her causing more carnage."
Earlier this month extracts from Lewthwaite's diary were made public. They contained a guide on how to be the perfect wife.
The diary was found in a police raid in December 2011 at a villa in Mombasa where she was living.
She eluded the authorities and has been on the run since. Extracts from the diary included a shopping list featuring Weetabix, nappies and two goats.
Among the tips offered by Lewthwaite was for women to always look beautiful for their man coming home, protect his money and never be stubborn.
She also scribbled plans to open a juice bar and stage classes for expectant mothers.
The diary contained Muslim-themed kids' stories dedicated to the children she had with London suicide bomber Jermaine Lindsay.
Samantha Lewthwaite was married to suicide bomber Jermaine Lindsay. She is the daughter of English soldier Andy Lewthwaite, who met and married Catholic Christine Allen while serving in Northern Ireland in the 1970s. She enjoyed an unremarkable childhood in Banbridge before moving to Aylesbury in England at a young age. After converting to Islam at 17, Lewthwaite changed her name to Sherafiyah and married Lindsay. He went on to detonate the bomb at King's Cross Tube station, killing 26 people, in July 2005.
