Will Grigg's On Fire anthem blazes a trail in the UK pop charts
A charity remix of the chanting sensation 'Will Grigg's On Fire', inspired by the Northern Ireland striker, is storming to the top of the UK charts.
The chant, sung to the tune of '90s dance anthem Freed from Desire by Gala, went viral online after fans were filmed singing in the stands at 24-year-old Grigg's home club Wigan Athletic.
Now Wigan has thrown its weight behind an official release of the song, remixed by London dance duo Blondie, and the track has shot to number 10 in the UK singles charts in a matter of hours after yesterday's release.
The new chart position puts Will Grigg higher than Little Mix and just one spot below Beyonce.
The new version also features a complete new set of Will Grigg-themed lyrics submitted on Twitter by Wigan fans and club chairman David Sharpe.
Money raised by the song will go to the charity Joseph's Goal, which spreads awareness of the rare genetic disorder NKH.
Mr Sharpe said: "I was on holiday in Majorca celebrating winning the league with my mates and everywhere I went people were singing Will Grigg's On Fire. It was madness, the chant has somehow ended up as the sound of the summer."
"Joseph's Goal has been very close to the club's heart for a long-time now and we're delighted to be supporting their work through this song."
