A woman escaped serious injury in a house fire in Larne.

The 42-year-old was treated for smoke inhalation following the 2.30am Coast Road blaze on Tuesday.

After the fire erupted it hit an oil tank and spread to another property, also hitting its oil tank.

The woman's two storey home was left completely gutted.

The Fire Service said the woman was alerted by a smoke alarm, which allowed her to make her escape before the arrival of the Fire Service.

A Fire Service spokeswoman added: “Firefighters dealt with a severe fire which gutted the two storey detached property and also involved an oil tank.  The fire spread to a second property and another oil tank causing external damage to that property.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

The A2 Coast Road was closed for a time, it has since reopened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
