Woman held over 1994 shooting

A woman has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Northern Ireland 20 years ago.

Father-of-four Sean McParland was shot dead in Belfast in February 1994.

The 55-year-old Catholic died a week after being attacked while babysitting his grandchildren at a house on Skegoneill Avenue in the north of the city.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said the arrest was part of a wider investigation, known as Operation Stafford, which is looking into murders and other serious crimes by the Ulster Volunteer Force.

The woman, 41, who was arrested by detectives this morning, is being held at the PSNI's serious crime suite in Antrim.
