Woman left unconscious by mugger who took bag

By Allan Preston

A community worker in Lurgan has been knocked unconscious by a thief who stole her handbag.

The woman was left deeply shaken when the attack occurred yesterday morning in the Mourneview and Grey Estate Community Centre on Princeton Avenue.

A post on the community association's Facebook page said the woman was "very shaken up after being struck by an object".

It added: "We have called down to see the girl and would appreciate any help."

Lurgan Ulster Unionist councillor Colin McCusker wished the lady a quick recovery.

"I condemn it outright, I would urge anybody in the vicinity of the community centre to report it to the police, local representatives or the community association," he said.

"There's a very busy shop opposite the community centre so perhaps some of the customers may have seen something.

"I want to pass on my concern to the member of staff who has been attacked. I hope she makes a full recovery."
