A woman is in a serious condition in hospital following a two-vehicle crash on the main road between Antrim and Ballymena.

The Lisnevenagh Road between Ballymena and Antrim was closed following the crash close to its junction with Woodgreen Road.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service got the call at around 9.41 and sent a rapid response paramedic and an Accident and Emergency crew.

The woman was taken to Antrim Area Hospital in a serious condition.

There were reports of heavy fog in the area at the time.

Diversions were in place and motorists advised to seek an alternative route for their journey.

Police have issued an appeal for anyone who was on that stretch of road close to the Woodgreen Road junction between 9.30am and 10am and witnessed the collision to contact police in Ballymena on the non-emergency number 101.

The road has now reopened.
