Woman's body found on the M2 in Belfast near Bellevue Bridge
A section of the M2 was closed last night after a woman's body was found on the motorway.
The woman was found lying on the motorway, near the Bellevue Bridge on the Antrim Road, at around 9pm.
Early reports suggested the woman was aged in her 50s and from the Glengormley area.
The alarm was raised by a passing ambulance crew.
A further ambulance crew and rapid response vehicle were also called to the scene.
John McPoland from the Ambulance Service said: "A crew was coming to Belfast from the Antrim direction and came across the incident at the Bellevue Bridge."
The motorway was sealed off citybound between the Sandyknowes and Fortwilliam junctions causing traffic disruption in the area. It remained closed yesterday evening.
A section of the Antrim Road was also cordoned off by police.
Earlier in Belfast, a multiple car collision closed the outside lane of the M1 citybound.
At least six cars were involved in the collision which happened close to the Divis Street slip road.
A PSNI spokesman said no one was injured. The scene was cleared in around an hour.
