'World's dumbest criminal' Belfast rioter identified by wig
A rioter identified by police through his distinctive wig could have appeared on TV's World's Dumbest Criminals, his lawyer has said.
West Belfast man James Hodkinson was caught after he posted a picture of himself on Facebook wearing the wig he wore during a riot last July, a court was told yesterday. Hodkinson, of Black Mountain Parade, was spared prison after a judge deferred his sentence for six months.
He was told by Judge Gordon Kerr QC to continue working with probation and stay out of trouble, or face jail.
The 22-year old was caught after pelting police lines with missiles during a riot in the Twaddell Avenue area of the city on July 13. While rioting, Hodkinson wore a red, while and blue wig. He later posted a picture on his Facebook page wearing the same wig and captioned the image "13th madness".
When he appeared in court last week, Hodkinson's barrister said his client's actions were akin to an episode of World's Dumbest Criminals.
Sentencing was deferred until September 14.
