Youths blamed for fire at Carrick children's park

Published 21/08/2015

Police have blamed young people for setting a fire and causing other damage to a children's play park in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

A trampoline was set on fire and other equipment damaged in the incident at the park on the Marine Highway at around 9pm on Thursday.

Sergeant Katrina McMullan said: “Young people should be aware of the consequences of anti-social behaviour in an area and the effect it can have on the everyday lives of residents in the local community.

"Deliberately lighting fires is particularly reckless and can have catastrophic consequences.

"Anyone who engages in this kind of activity can end up with a criminal record which can affect your travel, education and employment opportunities in the future.

“I would ask anyone with any information on this incident to contact Newtownabbey Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
