Bailiffs may move in on 'airport' homes
Thursday, 28 February 2008
Bailiffs could move in after Derry City Council, which owns the airport, started a process that will lead to the removal of any residents who refuse to leave their vested homes by Saturday.
The lands at City of Derry Airport were vested to allow safety works to be carried out.
In total, 19 buildings, including a number of family homes, will be demolished.
Today Robin Martin, who lives in the area with wife Kim and their two young children, said he still has not received a penny in compensation from the council.
"I think most of the people in the area who own their homes are in the same boat - we are not in a position to move, " he said.
A spokeswoman for Derry City Council today said that all efforts were being advanced to help with the compensation package for former property owners.
