Golf: Yet another changing of the guard in Foyle winter league

With seven weeks played in the Desmond Motors sponsored Winter League at Foyle, the lead has changed again with Team 8, consisting of Kieran Duffy, JJ Logue, Paddy McElhinney and Sean Logue having amassed 662 points and now take a nine point lead over Team 9 with three weeks to play.

Leading teams after Week 7



1st: Team 8 (662 points): Kieran Duffy, JJ Logue, Damien McKenna and John Morrison.



2nd: Team 9 (653 points): Bernard Kelly, Jarlath Clarke, Damien McKenna and John Morrison.



3rd: Team 6 (645 Points): Richard Burton, Paul McIntyre, Lawrence Mullan and Trevor Tracey.





Leading ladies team: Team 12 (547 points): Sadie O'Kane, Agnes McLaughlin, Ann Hamilton, Margaret Killen.

Turkey Competitions: Lenny McGrory 23 points (BOT), JJ Logue 24 points.



Ladies: Myra Gough 18 points.



Desmond Motors Winter League and Turkey competitions continue daily. This Saturday, December 16, sees the juvenile hamper at 11.30am. Juveniles should attend the clubhouse at 11.15 for the draw.

Christmas Hamper (TBF Thompson)



Meanwhile, the Christmas Hamper competition, sponsored by TBF Thompson, was played at Foyle on Sunday and the competitors had to endure very poor weather conditions making scoring difficult.

Derek Holmes (17) carded a very solid 37 points in the conditions for victory. Cecil Thompson (11) finished second after a break of tie with Vinny Brady (11), both players scoring 36 points.





Full result: 1st Trevor Holmes (17) 37 points, 2nd Cecil Thompson (11) 36 points (BOT), 3rd Vinny Brady (11) 36 points, 4th Martin Loughrey (12) 35 points (BOT).



After the recent death of Foyle Golf Club's esteemed honorary treasurer and 2003 past captain Mr Alan Harkens, Foyle Golf Club captain Mr John J Logue, members of council, club members and everyone at Foyle Golf Club Centre extends their deepest sympathy to his wife Isabel and sons Stephen, Alan James and David.
