McGowan hat-trick helps Bohemians ease past Culmore

In the last of the Premiership action this side of Christmas, Bohemians fired out a stark warning to the rest of the teams in the Premier division that they are chasing the title with a 4-0 win over Culmore.

And they are most certainly playing well enough to stake a claim.

Leaders Brandywell Celtic didn't play at the weekend and this result saw Bohemians close the gap, much to the delight of their manager George Hegarty.

Bohemians were totally dominant in the middle of the park and although Culmore were in the game in the opening half hour, once Bohemians scored there was only going to be one winner.

The game remained scoreless at the break, but Bohemians seemed to buzz in the second half and with the young Culmore side tiring, took full advantage.

Sean Liddy held the ball up well for George McGowan to join the attack from the middle of the park and he latched on to the pass to fire past the Culmore goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

On the hour mark Bohemians scored again and it was Liddy who provided the ammunition as he outfoxed the Culmore defence and laid the ball in to the path of McGowan to fire in his second goal of the game.

Eight minutes later and the game was over as a contest as Damien Power found Sean Liddy in space and he shot high into the Culmore net to make it 3-0.

Bohemians were now passing the ball about with ease and in the dying minutes they scored again as midfielder George McGowan completed a superb hat-trick to leave the final score 4-0.

Bohemians now play their first ever game in the North West of Ireland Champions League next Saturday and his troops will go into that game full of confidence.
