Viewpoint: See our TV stars shine

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Later this year, the stars of Emmerdale, one of Britain's top three TV soaps, will give up a precious weekend to come to Northern Ireland.

The reason for their trip is to raise money for charity - but also to have an enormous amount of fun with the public.

The Emmerdale Extravaganza, as it's become known, has been held in Aberdeen for seven years, but when Northern Ireland was suggested as a new location, the cast jumped at the chance.

Around 25 Emmerdale actors, producers and others will descend on the Province on June 25 for the event - which is being staged at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum in Cultra.

The mayhem will include a thrilling air display, golf challenge, fun and bike runs, abseiling and much, much more.

All the profits will go to the Anthony Nolan Trust, which takes back lives from leukaemia by providing bone marrow donors. In 2006, for example, the charity gave 512 children and adults a new chance of life.

The Belfast Telegraph is proud to support this event and we encourage all our readers to take part. It will be a wonderful family day out ... and the money you raise will save lives.
