Pair jailed for £3,000 jeans thefts
Two Belfastmen who admitted involvement in two “determined and brazen” thefts in which almost £3,000 worth of jeans were taken have each been jailed for a total of 18 months.
The pair, 21-year-old Sean McCann of no fixed abode and 22-year-old Anthony Sean Smith of Carlise Square, Belfast, also agreed to serve a year on probation following their release.
Belfast Crown Court heard that they were part of a team which first struck at the Boucher Road branch of River Island and then its sister branch in Donegall Place on December 5, 2008.
They burst into the stores, telling staff they were “taking over the store if that was all right” before snatching dozens of pairs of jeans and then making their escape in a stolen Mercedes.
