Pat Kenny tells of mother’s illness fight

Published 29/03/2010

RTE presenter Pat Kenny has spoken about his mother's struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

Mr Kenny yesterday praised the work of the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland, as he lent his support to a cause that is close to his heart. The broadcaster has been an ambassador for the support group since the death of his mother in October 2008.

At the launch of the 16th annual Tea Day — where the public are urged to host tea parties to raise money — the ‘Frontline' presenter told of his mother’s struggle with the disease. “She lived with Alzheimer's for 14 years, which is a long time,” he said. “What had been keeping her going was being in her own home.”
