Pipe-bomb explodes in west Belfast police station grounds
A pipe-bomb that exploded in the grounds of a west Belfast police station could have killed or caused serious injuries.
A security review is being carried out at Woodbourne PSNI station after the device exploded in the grounds of the complex.
Army experts were called to the station yesterday morning following the discovery of what appeared to be the remains of an exploded device.
Woodbourne is a 24-hour police station and officers would have been in the complex when the pipe-bomb exploded. There were no reports of any injuries or damage to the building.
A PSNI spokesman later confirmed the object was “an exploded pipe-bomb type device”.
SDLP councillor for the area Tim Attwood said that yesterday’s pipe-bomb could have killed or seriously injured someone.
“The people who did this must be stopped, as further attacks such as this may end in death or serious injury,” he said.
“The only way to stop them is to work with the PSNI and I would appeal to anyone with information on this incident to come forward to the police as a matter of urgency.”
