An Ulster History Circle blue plaque in memory of Professor Robert Mitchell Henry, former Queen's academic and administrator, will be unveiled on Thursday at the university where he was a well-known personality for many years.

Belfast-born Robert Mitchell Henry (1873-1950) was educated at RBAI, Royal University of Ireland and University of London and was Professor of Latin at QUB for 30 years from 1920. He was elected Secretary of Academic Council in 1909 and held this office until 1936.

Doreen Corcoran, chair of the Ulster History Circle, said it “welcomes recognition of a distinguished classical scholar who also embraced Irish culture and enriched the university library from his own collection”.

The Ulster History Circle blue plaques commemorate men and women, born in or associated with the province of Ulster, who have made a significant contribution to its history and development.
