£612,000 in payouts to suspended public staff
Over £612,000 was paid out to suspended civil servants last year in what has been branded a “massive misuse of public money”.
In a response to an Assembly question, Finance Minister Sammy Wilson admitted 18 public sector workers were given a total of £612,263 in the last financial year.
Broken down, it equates to each civil servant receiving £34,015.
The SDLP’s John Dallat submitted the question. He yesterday said it was a “massive misuse of public money” and that it shows how important it is to settle issues around suspension quickly.
“This figure represents a very considerable amount of public money which could have been spent on services which are now under threat,” he said.
