Alex Salmond: I’m a Star Trek fanatic

Tuesday, 27 April 2010

Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond has boldly gone where no party leader has gone before — by revealing he is an “obsessive” Star Trek fan.

As well as being an avid viewer of the cult sci-fi series, Mr Salmond said Dannii Minogue was his favourite X Factor judge and revealed he is a fan of the US political drama The West Wing.

The SNP leader was quizzed on his TV and radio choices in the latest edition of the Radio Times and told the magazine: “I am an obsessive Trekkie.”

Mr Salmond added: “Voyager was my favourite, that and first series Star Trek. I've seen them all so many times. I've seen the new Star Trek film, too.”

He also revealed a fondness for detective dramas featuring Agatha Christie's famous Miss Marple character, saying: “I do like Miss Marple, I bet you didn't know that.”

When asked who his favourite interviewer was from John Humphrys, Jeremy Paxman, Fern Britton and Andrew Marr, the First Minister opted for Mr Paxman.

Mr Salmond opted for the The West Wing ahead of Friends, Sex And The City and Band Of Brothers.

Alex please do not go too far with your drive for independence as we Ulster Scots wont know who we are anymore! We may start calling ourselves Irish! Sorry! no I think English would be better! Beam us up Scottie!!
