Hi °C | Lo °C A Strangford UUP Councillor has been expelled from the party for supporting DUP candidate Jim Shannon over his party’s choice — former TV presenter Mike Nesbitt.
“Voting for Shannon” flyers were distributed in the constituency this week carrying a ringing endorsement by former UUP Ards Borough councillor Jeff Magill.
“No other elected representative works harder for his constituents,” it reads.
Mr Shannon said he appreciated the support:“I was very thankful that he took the time to approach me and assure me of his support.”
Strangford MLA David McNarry said Mr Magill’s comments “were not a surprise”, and confirmed he has been expelled from the party.
