Expelled DUP councillor Ruth Patterson may attend today's TUV's annual conference in Templepatrick after being invited by party leader Jim Allister

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph last night, Ms Patterson confirmed she had been asked to the conference but said she was still deciding whether to attend.

"I hold Jim Allister in high regard and it's an honour to have been invited," she said. "But whether or not I attend, my future in politics will be as an independent and not in any political party."

Ms Patterson was expelled from the DUP last week for a Belfast Telegraph interview criticising its decision to co-opt Emma Pengelly into the vacant South Belfast Assembly seat.

"I intend to run against Ms Pengelly next May as an independent. Over the past week I've been inundated with messages of support and offers to help in my campaign," she said.
