Founder member of the Provisional IRA and former Sinn Féin assemblyman John Kelly has died at the age of 71 following a long illness.
Mr Kelly was no longer active in politics after being de-selected for his assembly seat at the last election.
The Belfast-born activist was one of the radical republicans who formed the Provisional IRA and was jailed three times for IRA activities.
He was involved in the republican movement for many years and appeared in the dock during the Arms Trial in the 1970s.
Kelly had recently criticised Sinn Fein's decision to endorse the PSNI.
