Ministers under fire over victims' post

The First Minister's Office came under fire last night for not giving the Assembly further details about the delay in appointing the Victims Commissioner.

Alliance MLA Sean Neeson said he fears the appointment process is being turned into a "sham" by Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness.

The two Ministers have had a shortlist of candidates for the £65,000 post for four months, but have yet to announce an appointment.

Mr Neeson tabled an Assembly question about the affair - and yesterday he got the same reply the Ministers had released to the media a week ago.

"I'm very annoyed at the lack of substance in the statement," he said.

"I expected more from the First Minister. If they are not going to come clean with elected Assembly members, I think there is a very major legislative problem."
