Paisley: Gardai and PSNI should be allowed cross border

The DUP's Ian Paisley Jnr is calling for the Gardai and the PSNI to be allowed to cross the border in pursuit of suspected criminals.

At present, neither Ireland nor Britain have fully endorsed the European Shengen agreement allowing such cross-border forays.

However, Mr Paisley says he wants his party to raise the issue at the next meeting of the British-Irish Council in December.

His comments are somewhat of a surprise as, not so long ago, it would have been unthinkable for the DUP to endorse the concept of the Gardai being allowed to cross the border.
