Rarely-seen side of Martin McGuinness’s life goes on show
A photographic exhibition of the late Martin McGuinness has given new insight into the life of the former IRA commander turned political leader.
Martin: A Photographic Exhibition was curated by his family and mixes images from his political life with never-before-seen shots from their private archive.
The collection was opened yesterday in the Gasyard Centre in his home city of Londonderry by former Sinn Fein MLA Mitchel McLaughlin.
Speaking ahead of the opening, the McGuinness family said: "Martin was recognised all over the world, regularly pictured alongside international leaders and was one of the most photographed people in Ireland.
"Many aspects of his life were lived in the public eye. But, to us, he was a husband, father, grandfather and brother who lived for his family.
"In curating this photographic exhibition of Martin's remarkable life, we have chosen photos that cover all aspects of his life - both in the public eye and away from the cameras, relaxing with his family."
