Robinson’s attack on ‘sad’ Adams
Saturday, 11 October 2008
The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) launched a personal attack on Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams last night in a sign of growing political tension.
DUP leader Peter Robinson hit back at claims that elements of his party were opposed to sharing power with Catholics by branding Mr Adams a “sad spectacle”.
Mr Robinson rejected the republican claims of bigotry in his party and said the Sinn Fein leader’s comments should be treated with “pity rather than scorn”.
“What a sad spectacle Gerry Adams has become,” he said.
“The DUP is committed to working the Assembly for the maximum benefit of all of the people of Northern Ireland.”
Last night Mr Adams launched a strongly-worded attack on his political opponents, blaming the DUP for jeopardising the power-sharing institutions.
“There are clearly elements of the DUP who really don’t want to have a Catholic about the place. They are opposed to power-sharing in any form.”
Last night a Sinn Fein source hit back at Mr Robinson’s comments: “What Peter Robinson needs to do is focus on delivering on the obligations his party entered into in the St Andrews Agreement.”

It's time the Stormont executive got back to work and the MLA's earnt their money instead of wasting tax payers money bickering between themselves. The Northern Ireland People deserve a working Stormont instead of a 'DORMONT STORMONT'.

Peter Robinson is only dedicated to obstructionism. I see no hope for the assembly until the DUP is punished in an election.

As I used to live in Belfast (2002-03), I would like to, modestly, as a foreign observer, stress that all forms of negotiations have been falling down because of personal antagonisms. I have lived in republican as well as loyalist areas. Have clearly experienced the deepness of social/cultural/religious divisions in this society. But people have the power & the duty, if they really want peace (and maybe one day harmony) to overcome by themselves. And to remove these cupid & close-minded politicians. The latter will remain some hardline coservatives because they have been making money with that. If the people want to really live in peace.

Peter Robinson will never change. He can not stomach the idea of power sharing with catholics. He has an obligation to fulfill for all the people of Northren Ireland so get on with it.

It's time to put aside prejudices but Robinson's still stuck in the past. Just how much is he being paid to block progress? N. Ireland needs a leader who can compromise and cooperate, but who in that talentless shower at Stormount?
