Sammy Wilson: I won’t quit

The Environment Minister defied his critics yesterday and said he was not planning to stand down.

Sammy Wilson came under criticism from Alban Maginness for an alleged conflict of interest in considering planning applications at Belfast City Council while overseeing the Planning Service.

He answered minister’s questions in the Assembly yesterday following his banning of an advertisement on climate change and a vote of no confidence from the Environment Committee last week.

Sinn Fein’s Daithi McKay said: “Can I be the first to welcome the minister back after he was sent to the DUP sin bin by his party colleagues last week?”

Mr Wilson replied: “I know that the member (Mr McKay) would love to get rid of me from this position but I assure him that I am here today and I will be here for the foreseeable future.”
