SF rejects plans to compensate UDR families

Sinn Fein has rejected today's report of the interim Victims' Commissioner which recommends a multi-million fund for the bereaved families of Ulster Defence Regiment soldiers.

The Northern Ireland Secretary, Peter Hain's, appointment of the Commissioner, Bertha McDougall, was successfully challenged in the high court which ruled it was improper and politically-motivated.

Party spokesman Mitchel McLaughlin said all communities in Northern Ireland had suffered during the conflict including the victims of UDR killings and there should be no hierarchy of suffering.
