Talks invite over Northern Ireland Troubles report

Secretary of State Shaun Woodward has invited the political parties to talks next month on how to advance the controversial Eames/ Bradley proposals on dealing with the legacy of the Troubles.
The talks are likely to stretch into September as part of wider public consultations on the report by the Consultative Group on the Past.
The idea for a £12,000 payment for victims was dropped after the united opposition of almost all the parties but Mr Woodward will want to hear how the issue of ‘recognition’ for victims can be taken forward — among other issues.
Mr Woodward said: “As Northern Ireland looks to the future, it must also find a way of dealing with the past. The Consultative Group published their report in January, which contained over 30 recommendations on how that could be done.”
