Car breakdown services have been inundated with thousands of calls from motorists who have found themselves the victim of the cold snap.
In Northern Ireland the RAC has fielded thousands of calls over the past two weeks and received twice as many requests for help earlier this week.
A spokeswoman told the Belfast Telegraph that on Monday its locally based service reported 111 breakdowns — double the amount it would normally have for that time of the week.
“It was double what we would normally get for a Monday,” she said.
“Overall yesterday wasn’t too bad compared to the rest of the country. But Monday was particularly bad. It was the first day back to work and school.”
