Relabelled Boots skincare sold on the cheap in pound shops
Skincare costing up to £8 at Boots is selling for £1 in discount stores under new labels, consumers have reported.
Customers who bought the bargains in Poundland and B&M peeled off the labels to discover Boots own label No7 and Botanics products.
The MoneySavingExpert (MSE) website investigated after consumers posted their findings on its online forum.
MSE found Poundland products carrying the Pure label were the most likely to be from Boots.
It said: “At first, having popped into a few branches near MSE Towers, we had no luck. Yet then in the Harrow branch we found a pot labelled Pure Foaming Bath Souffle, for a quid of course.
“Back at the office we gently peeled off the label (a little soaking helps) and low and behold found the Boots Botanics Foaming Bath Soak label underneath! Buy it in Boots and it'd cost £4.99.”
The majority of items found were either creams or bath products from Boots No7 or Botanics ranges, MSE said.
One woman reported buying Pure Super Firming Body Cream in a Hartlepool Poundland and peeling off the label to find it was Boots No7 Fabulously Firming Body Cream. The product is discontinued but sold for around £8.
Other products sold under the Pure range were found by customers to have been originally labelled as Botanics Body Glow Lotion, Botanics Day Moisture Lotion and Botanics Vitamin Recovery Mask.
MSE said many of the products seemed to have been for the overseas market or discontinued.
Most carried an advisory that they should be used within 24 months of opening.
MSE said: “The official word from Poundland is that the stock levels are now very low and it will not be getting any more stock in.
“So if you're lucky enough to live near either a Poundland or B&M store pop in and see, but don't bother making a special trip as it may be a wasted journey.”
Poundland trading director David Coxon said: “We're always on the lookout for amazing value and work with a wide range of reputed suppliers — including big brand names — to deliver this to our customers.
“The fact that stock changes regularly keeps customers coming back, as they know there are real bargains to be found in Poundland.”
Poundland added: “There is a bona fide relationship between Boots and our supplier to re-label the products after removing the original label. On this occasion a mistake occurred and we are working with our supplier to rectify the situation.”
