32 Irish pubs make the grade in Michelin Eating Out guide
Thirty-two pubs across the island of Ireland have secured coveted listings in a premier food guide.
Michelin's Eating Out In Pubs recommends 25 establishments in the Republic and seven in Northern Ireland.
And one of the recipes for success appears to be in the name as two pubs that make the grade at either end of the island play on a poaching theme.
Co Down tops the bill when it comes to looking for a good place to dine informally, with six establishments on the list - the Pheasant in Annahilt, the Poacher's Pocket in Comber, the Parson's Nose and Plough Inn, both in Hillsborough, Pier 36 in Donaghadee and Balloo House in Killinchy.
Co Cork comes next with five pubs in the guide - Mary Ann's in Castletownshend, the Poacher's Inn in Bandon, Deasy's in Clonakilty, Cronin's in Crosshaven and Toddies at The Bulman in Kinsale.
Guide editor Rebecca Burr said: "We are increasingly witnessing how pubs can provide a platform for young chefs to start their own businesses, and how inventive these chefs can be, particularly when it comes to the sourcing of their ingredients."
The full list includes Billy Andy's at Mounthill, near Larne, Co Antrim, while in Co Clare Morrissey's in Doonbeg, Vaughan's Anchor Inn in Liscannor, the Wild Honey Inn, Lisdoonvarna and Linnane's Lobster Bar in New Quay were all listed.
In Dublin the Old Spot and Chop House in Ballsbridge made the grade while in Galway Moran's Oyster Cottage in Kilcolgan and O'Dowd's in Roundstone also did.
In Kerry O'Neill's Seafood Bar in Caherciveen made the list and in Kildare Harte's, Ballymore Inn in Ballymore Eustace and Fallon's in Kilcullen have been recommended.
Others in the book include the Oarsman in Carrick-on-Shannon, Fitzpatrick's in Jenkinstown, Co Louth, in Mayo The Tavern in Murrisk and the Sheebeen in Westport, Hargadons in Sligo, Larkins in Garrykennedy, Co Tipperary, the Lobster Pot in Carne, Co Wexford, and Byrne & Woods in Roundwood, Co Wicklow.
The Michelin Eating Out In Pubs Guide 2017 recommends more than 500 pubs across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, including 38 new entries.
