Fifty jobs are to be created with the opening of an eye care manufacturing plant in Roscommon town, it has been announced.

Moss Vision said its new factory will make intraocular lenses, used for the treatment of eye conditions like cataracts and myopia. The jobs will be based at the IDA business park in the town.

The products made at the plant will be for distribution in Europe and worldwide.

It will also act as a sales and marketing centre and distribution point, the company said.

Mehul Asnani, chairman and managing director of Moss Vision, said he was "extremely excited" about the new venture.

"This investment allows us to meet the demands of our growing business and take advantage of the high quality of talent available," he said.

The company is looking at further expansion opportunities in Ireland, he added.
