500 jobs in retail park expansion

Up to 500 jobs are expected to be created after a retail park was given the green light for a 50 million-euro expansion.

An Bord Pleanala has granted planning permission for the expansion of Kildare Village.

The plan, to increase the number of retail units by 36, will create 380 permanent posts and 120 construction jobs.

Maria McGovern, director of Kildare Village, welcomed the move.

"The new development will generate significant employment opportunities, and the international investment in the region will give the necessary critical mass to enhance the overall experience of Kildare Village, making it an even more attractive shopping destination for national and international tourist visitors to the town and surrounding areas," she said.

Kildare Village opened in July 2007 and is home to more than 60 boutiques of international luxury fashion and lifestyle brands and employs 550 people.

It was developed by Value Retail, which operates nine Chic Outlet Shopping Villages across Europe.
