A 75-year-old man has been arrested coming off a plane in Ireland after almost two kilos of cocaine was found in his luggage.

The pensioner, from the US, arrived at Dublin Airport on a flight from Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris.

The 1.9 kilo cocaine haul is estimated to have a street value of around 133,000 euro.

Investigating gardai are continuing to quiz the suspect about the drugs.

Customs officials said the interception was part of an intelligence-led operation in conjunction with the Garda.

"The man was arrested and is currently being questioned by gardai," said a spokeswoman.

"Investigations are ongoing."
