Gardai are trying to identify a man knocked down and killed in Co Carlow.

The pedestrian, who was thought to have been in his mid-20s, was struck by a van near Tullow at around 5am on Tuesday.

Gardai said the man was over six feet tall, well-built and had short red hair.

His body has been taken to Waterford Regional Hospital.

The driver of the van was uninjured in the collision, which happened on the Tullow to Ballon Road in the townland of Ardristan.

The road has been closed as Garda Forensic Collision investigators examine the scene.
