Boy dies after crash in Westmeath
A toddler has died in hospital, two days after he was hit by a car outside his home.
The 22-month-old boy was left fighting for his life when he was struck by the vehicle on the Coillin Bui estate in Moate, Co Westmeath, on Saturday afternoon.
He was taken to Mullingar General Hospital and later transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin.
A garda spokesman said the collision is under investigation.
Elsewhere, a 25-year-old woman was killed when the car she was driving crashed.
The accident happened at Drumard, Dromad, Co Leitrim, at about 10pm on Sunday night.
No other vehicle was involved.
Their deaths take the number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year to 154.
