Car driver killed in bus collision

A motorist was killed when his car was in collision with a bus carrying more than 20 passengers.

The man, in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near Barnesmore Gap on the Ballybofey to Donegal Road in Co Donegal.

Bus Eireann confirmed that 24 passengers were on its service, with one taken to Letterkenny General Hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesman said the bus driver was not injured.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased," he added.

"We will assist gardai in any investigation into the matter."

The stretch of road has been closed while Garda forensic collision investigators examine the scene and local diversions are in place.

Gardai in Ballybofey have appealed for witnesses.

Bus Eireann said passengers travelling on the 7.15am service from to Sligo were transferred to another bus to continue their journey.
