Committee to investigate 'fracking' plan
An Oireachtas committee is to travel to the north west to investigate controversial plans for underground gas exploration known as 'fracking'.
Australian firm Tamboran Resources has been granted option licences to carry out testing in Co Leitrim, Co Cavan and Co Fermanagh.
The Republic's Environmental Protection Agency told the Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications yesterday that further research was needed "to fully understand the potential impacts on the the environment".
Following the meeting, the committee decided to visit north Leitrim to get the views of local communities on the plans.
