Customs seize 20,000 cigarettes

More than 20,000 cigarettes concealed in a car have been seized by Customs officers

A 30-year-old Lithuanian is being questioned in connection with the discovery by Revenue's Customs Service at Rosslare Harbour.

The find had a retail value of 9,661 euro and a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately 8,200 euro.

A Customs spokeswoman said an X-ray scanner indicated an anomaly after examining a vehicle that arrived on a ferry from France.

"Following further investigations by Revenue officers, the 'Minsk Mini-Slims' cigarettes were discovered concealed in the Renault car," she said.
