Dead man was missing girl's brother

The brother of a teenage girl missing for five years has been stabbed to death.

Detectives named the victim of the fatal assault at Northern Cross in north Dublin on Saturday night as Dean Fitzpatrick, 23.

He was the brother of Dubliner Amy Fitzpatrick who vanished in Spain in 2008, when she was 15.

A man has been arrested over the killing.

Dean Fitzpatrick was discovered on the Malahide Road at about 11.20pm and taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

It is thought he suffered a number of stab wounds.

Gardai were alerted to the incident by a witness who also called an ambulance.

The scene was sealed off for a technical examination by Garda forensic experts. The State pathologist was also called in.

Gardai appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

A man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the death this afternoon. He is being held at Coolock Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
