Five Pomeranian puppies have been found in a cage and seized at Dublin Port.

Gardai said the young dogs were recovering after a van on its way to England was stopped and searched as part of Operation C-Port.

There was no valid documentation for the puppies and they were handed over to the Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The puppies will be quarantined and put up for adoption.

Gardai said it was the third incident in recent weeks of puppies being seized at Dublin Port as part of the same operation.
