Irish police have advised GAA fans heading to the Ulster Championship to give themselves plenty of time travelling to Clones in Co Monaghan.

Thousands of fans from Co Tyrone are going to see their team take on Donegal in the senior final at St Tiernachs Park from 2pm.

Garda have advised fans to arrive ahead of 2pm to avoid missing the start of the game as most of the traffic is expected to be on the A5 crossing the border at Moybridge to go on to the N2 to Clones.

The game coincides with a country music festival in Monaghan town and there will be traffic diversions in place from 6pm which is likely to affect homebound traffic.

A spokesman added: "Delays can be expected from Monaghan Town to Clones due to the volume of traffic particularly when both games are over. Please be patient and obey the directions of An Garda Siochana"
